- Spectacular, nocturnal terror generally occurs during the first three hours of the night, during a period of deep sleep, unlike the nightmare that emerges in the second half of the night. The night terror is very much like a false friend's, the nightmare, but in reality it is side by side with sleepwalking. It is most common in children from 3 to 6 years old. It can last from a few seconds to twenty minutes, and only appears once in the night.
- In the softer versions, the child walks, sits a little haggard and then goes back to bed. In the hardest version, he screams and calls his parents, terrorized. If you touch him, he struggles and does not recognize anyone. He may have his eyes open, but seems hallucinated. And yet, he sleeps. If a child can remember a nightmare and tell it, it is impossible for him to remember that he had a night terror.
