Grant the verb with the subject

I sing, you sing, we sing ... And who gives the verb with the subject? It's your child and it requires a strong reflection! Here is how he gradually gets to know the chords and how to help him in his progress.

  • The spelling of the verb in a sentence is essentially based on the agreement with the subject. This first supposes that this relation is well perceived. Once the verb is identified, your child will have to mobilize his attention to mark the agreement in all writing activities.

When does it start?

  • From CP, your child has been led to identify the marks of agreement between the subject and the verb. Without being particularly dug, these clues were present in his approach to the language. At CE1, the agreement of the verb with the subject has been the object of a specific teaching. Your child should be able to mark this chord in all the simple sentences when the construction is regular, and first with the verbs of the 1st group (subject + verb or subject + verb + complement).
  • It is in cycle III that things get complicated: the sentences become longer and more complex, the conjugations will make the task more difficult. It is in the production of texts (writing) that this essential rule will play the most turns for schoolchildren.

In class, how long does it last?

  • This notion is part of what is now called "the study of language" (grammar). The teacher has from 2:30 to 3:30 per week for this domain that it modulates according to the difficulties. This learning is one of the key moments of spelling.
